Halloween is a holiday that both children and adults can enjoy. From the candy to costumes to the decorating to the spookiness, there seems to be something for everyone. Even though this night is full of fun and festivity, we have to be careful -- this night can quickly turn dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers alike. Here are 10 trick-or-treat safety tips: Use those headlights. Even in the daylight, children crossing the street are more likely to see you, and you are more likely to see other trick-or-treaters, especially those kids wearing darker costumes. Don’t drive distracted. Put your cell phone away. Tonight is the night to be on your guard. Turn the radio down. You need to use all your senses tonight to make sure the coast is clear. It’s October, which means it’s time to start thinking about your family’s Halloween plans! Halloween falls midweek this year, which means we will all want to get our little ghouls to bed on time. Here are some family-friendly options. Go to one, or hit all three in addition to trick-or-treating in your neighborhood! The City of Florissant will be hosting their annual Halloween party from 6-8pm at James Eagan Center, for residents of Florissant only. You must present proof of residency at the door. This is an event for families and kids 12 and under. This is a fantastic event, replete with refreshments, games, prizes, and contests, etc. Best of all, it’s free! First Christian Church will be holding their annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 27, 3-5pm. Lee-Hamilton School will also be holding their annual Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 28, 6:30-7:30. October is one of our favorite months, thanks to Halloween. We love seeing the little ghosts and goblins visiting each family’s car at the annual Trunk or Treat events at our church and other churches in the Florissant area. Normally, we would write a blog on Halloween driver safety, but we thought we’d take a different approach: The Top 10 Tips for Driving Safely at Night. After Daylight Savings Time ends, we all have the extra hazard of driving in the dark when we get off work. Two of the biggest accident days of the year occurs when the time changes. So, let’s share some helpful safe driving tips: Look around. Before backing out of your parking space, turning a corner, or crossing an intersection, be sure you take a good look around to avoid pedestrians, bicyclists, animals, and other distracted drivers. At Gary’s Auto Service, it is an understatement to say we love cars. We love working on them. We love driving them. We love what they represent. We even love how they participate in the many Halloween festivals in the Florissant / St. Louis region. For those who are new to the area, we have a Halloween tradition called Trunk-Or-Treat. Trunk-Or-Treat is where trick-or-treating is done from parked car to parked car in a local parking lot, often at a school or church.
